Hi,
I've got a little problem with meaning of a phrase: National Knockout
Sports Event - this is my project title to be prepared by the end of
this week but I have some doubts about this topic
I would be grateful if anyone could help me with this.

It would help if you would say something about what the
doubts consist of. On the face of it, the term "knockout
sports event" is quite easy to understand, and it seems
there should be little reason for doubt. The _New Shorter
Oxford English Dictionary_ has the following definition,
among others, for "knockout":

(Designating) a competition or the system used in
it in which the defeated competitors in each round
are eliminated. L19.

If, for example, a tournament starts with 32 competitors, in
the first round there are 16 losers, leaving 16 for the next
round. In the next round there are eight losers, leaving
eight for the next round. After four rounds, there are only
two competitors left, and the winner of the fifth round is
the winner of the tournament.

One complication comes in the matter of draws; that is, a
game that neither of the competitors wins. Draws need to be
settled somehow, and one way to do it is by a coin toss.
Another way is to play a second time. Draws in some
football (soccer) competitions are settled by first taking
the game into a 30-minute overtime. If the score is still
tied after the overtime, a penalty shoot-out continues until
one side wins.

The ways that were used to decide draws (level results) in
the knockout phase of the recent World Cup Football (soccer)
competition are discussed at

Hi,

I think that the title is fine, and I like the repetition of 'n'
sound. If you could explain a little about the sports event, it would
be useful.
